Finally, we have a proper background for the game's menu. We wanted to go with something serene, like Twilight researching her notes on the cases, something like that. This is to be animated for the final version, so it'll be even fancier!

I have a feeling that if Twilight chose to pursue a full-time career in police crime investigations work, that she would rise to the rank of chief investigator in no time at all. Despite her being a somewhat socially awkward bookworm, she also possesses several traits that would make her an excellent police investigator in my mind: She's extremely inquisitive and intelligent, possesses almost freakish organizational and rationilization skills, has an observant eye and nature, and has reasonably good interpersonal (interponysal? :P) skills, as well as (judging from the game, at least) a competent grasp on interrogation techniques and tactics, and finally, as this picture shows, she's willing to bust her flank off to solve a case, even if it means staying up into the wee hours of the morning reviewing case notes and such! I'm certain that any investigations team, both in their world and even in ours, would jump to have a mind such as hers working with them. This is coming from someone who is actively training to become a crime scene investigator himself! :)

Anyway, awesome picture, man. Seeing it animated in the latest demo made it even awesomer! Can't wait to see what's in store for us in Case 1! :D

Aye, I'd imagine she'd do well on such a job, we even saw that in the MMMmystery Expresswhatchamacallit episode. She's surprisingly good at thinking outside the box too.

Huh, what kind of training/studying do you do? I've always been a bit intrigued by jobs like that.

Haw, glad you like it! Thank Warpy for the awesome animations too.

Yeah, I liked the callbacks made to that episode during the demo during the talks with Rarity and Pinkie, lol. =P

Well, some of the first classes I had to take had to do with the aspect of criminal law and the court system in general, describing the different laws and procedures in the criminal justice field, how the courts operate and all that; can't go much further in it if you don't understand what it is, heh. Then I took some generalized forensic classes to get a sense of what a CSI does and the techniques they use and how to properly perform them, such as the proper ways to collect different kinds of evidence, be it physical, fingerprint, or DNA evidence. Now I'm getting into the more specific classes which deal with those techniques, such as ballistics (the study of guns and bullets), fingerprint identification and classification, crime scene photography, report writing and note taking, and interrogation techniques and tactics, as well as general case prep and investigation procedures. There's a LOT that goes into investigating a crime scene besides what they show us on TV, and it's nowhere near as glamorous as they make it out to be there, lol. But I pretty much expected that going into it. :P

Heh, I take it they spend a little time every now and then telling what all the CSI series do wrong =P? Enhance, enhance, enhance...
But aye, it sounds like a pretty intriquing job, though one heavy in paperwork.

Yeah, that was in fact the first thing my Introductory Forensics professor discussed in our class, lol. She wanted to make it clear to us that a lot of the stuff we see in shows like CSI and NCIS is either not real, or is not how it's done in real life, and how quite a lot of people actually believe that that's the way it's actually done. She called it the CSI effect, heh. =P

But yeah, a good majority of it is spent doing paperwork, like I said, filling out police reports, taking notes on crime scene data, witness interviews and the like. But I don't really mind, it's just something that comes with the job. :)

Heh, I'd imagine that's pretty irritating for the people working in those actual jobs.

Ayep, you can't escape paperwork no matter what job you do. :p

*Sigh* Yeah, but that's what comes with going into any kind of career in criminal justice; it's just one of the more irritating and boring aspects of the job that you can't escape. :P

So hey, I imagine by now you heard of Hasbro issuing a C&D letter to the Fighting is Magic creators. How have you and the rest of the MLI team taken that? Did it cause any worry at the time it was announced?
